The enigmatic ever changing standards, requirements, ethics, and guidelines set up a "perfect storm" for those that wish to exploit the public's naiveté.  Scammers thrive in the industry, many people will buy a puppy and never receive it, it never existed except in picture form. You might find it hard to believe, but some even paint a much better picture of themselves than what they deserve, they resell other breeder's puppies will little concern for what will happen down the road.   After the pet leaves their home they refuse to honor their contract, let alone acknowledge there existence, the customer they were more than willing to talk to for hours before the sale is now a bother.  Not to mention the false promises and disillusionment they are left with about their puppy, who was supposedly housebroken and would never bark!

We are sure you have heard your share of horrible breeder stories from client's as well, it has become far too common.   We know that as a breeder reading this you are most likely not one of these individuals.  You are most likely concerned about your puppies, your chosen breed(s), and your adopting families.  You are the kind of breeder that we encourage, you are the kind of breeder we would like for a family to find when they go looking for their next pet.  We know you exist, but all that seems to be portrayed in the media is backyard breeders and commercial kennels.

Our goal is to set a standard with an easy to recognize symbol that allows a customer to quickly recognize that you are a breeder they can trust, you have a good relationship with your veterinarian, you exist where you say you exist, that health testing you claim to do has been verified by an independent party, with an accurate and positive history of customer experiences.  With our Breeder Challenge program it further allows the customer to see that you are by far one of the most responsible breeders in your breed, as you take the health of your animals extremely seriously.  It seems simple enough, but those of us familiar with all aspects of the industry know what a huge task this is - and why it has not been attempted on this scale before.

By addressing the major parts of the problems facing the industry:  Public education, recognition of breeders doing the right thing, and accountability for both pet owners and breeders. We can help clean up the industry, assist you in educating new puppy homes, and dispel quite a bit of the misconceptions that misguided activists have created about dog breeders.  Our goals are set high and you know as well as we do that this is what needs to happen in order to preserve the industry, and the quality of dogs.
The Association of Reputable Breeders is an organization formed this year, who is seeking non-profit status.  We are still growing, developing, and maturing.  With every new member another brick is placed on the solid foundation of our goals.  You can help us, you can help puppy buyers, and your breed by becoming part of our program.  Currently in development is a Breeder Directory, allowing consumers to visit our website for an easily accessible list of Breeders in the program.  We are also developing an online information source to educate puppy shoppers on hereditary and congenital issues, as well as providing a realistic view of what to expect with a new puppy and what they are in for as new owners.  This source will differ from others as it will strive to display accurate information in layman's terms, something sorely needed across the board.  We are always happy to hear suggestions, opinions, and other feedback from breeders, breed clubs and pet owners.  We continually strive to be better.

That is something that we know you want to be part of and get behind, isn't it?
Whether it be due to the loss of the old family dog, or the eager petitions of children, when a family decides to purchase a puppy they are usually armed with a general idea of what they are looking for.    As their searching process begins, most will head to the place we all go nowadays when we need the answer to anything and everything - the internet.  You know the  wonderful place when no matter how busy we get with life, work, and that yard that always seems to need a mow, we can always find a second to hop online and get some "trusted" information.  Up until now, they thought they had a pretty good idea of what it was they wanted, that was until one click on a search engine bombarded them with "facts" that they had no idea about.

Everyone from Animal rights activists to puppy salesmen are pushing their opinions as high up the rankings as they will go.  The amount of information and sources out there can be truly overwhelming, the multitude of opinions, standards, and regulations are nothing short of confusing.  First time buyers, and even experienced pet owners, often don't know where to go or what to look for; even though their intentions are to find a great breeder.  Unfortunately for both the buyers and the great breeders out there, what the buyers are most likely to find (or get distracted by) are the animal rights groups warning against puppy mills, and the puppy resellers with flashy tactics who dance around questions with deceptive statements.  This isn't fair to you or the family looking for a happy healthy puppy.
