WELCOME TO THE ARB WEBSITE!

The Association of Reputable breeders aims to advance the relationship and trust between breeders and the public.  In an unregulated industry things like integrity and honesty become the immeasurable mark of excellence.

The goal is simple:  To create acceptable standards that bridge the gap between the things we can verify and the things we can't.

This is accomplished as outlined below

  1. Code of Ethics - Definable actions that serve as the basis for what is acceptable and what is not.
  2. Verified Information - Current business and veterinarian information is verified and kept up to date.
  3. "Open Door" Policy - Our members agree to allow us to share unbiased information about them.  See privacy policy for what we can share.
  4. Reputation Building Services - By facilitating resolutions and making accurate records available.

About the ARB Verification Report
The goal we aim to achieve with our reports is to provide information about the breeder to the public, that will assist their best judgement about the breeder.  We provide the location that we have verified, which lets you know the only place this breeder should be.  Puppy mill breeders are often located in one state, and often sell puppies through brokers or other individuals passing themselves off as breeders in other states under the guise of a "breeder network" or similar term.  ARB also contacts the member's veterinarian to ensure both puppies AND adults are being seen, and that they would provide a positive reference based upon everything they have experienced with the client.  Breeders who only provide veterinary care for puppies is a huge red flag.
Dispute resolution and history is also provided if applicable,  this proves to be essential in the industry.  Puppies are living creatures and costly problems can arise, not to mention the emotional toll it can take.  We have found that one of the biggest concerns facing individuals looking for a breeder is knowing they will not get ripped off, it seems many consumers are familiar with horror stories about being left stranded with sick puppies, huge vet bills, and breeders that won't respond or honor their warranty.  If a breeder has any unresolved disputes it is made public through our report.  Membership is withdrawn from any breeder that has 2 or more unresolved disputes, and should be a warning to anyone wishing to do business with that breeder.  Violation of our Code of Ethics is also grounds for repercussions, and all confirmed violations will be made available on the report.
While we do not currently require health testing (which vary from breed to breed) to be on file, we encourage our members to provide it, if you do not see it on the report do not hesitate to discuss it with the breeder.  ARB is a relatively new organization (formed this year) and we are working on many additional features to help you feel more informed and comfortable about dealing with our members.  UPDATE:  ARB BREEDER CHALLENGE IS NOW AVAILABLE!
We hope you have a better idea of how the verification report is aimed at assisting you, we are sure you know it is not a substitute for your own research or discussion with the breeder.
